"Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan" is a popular otome visual novel game series about a young heroine name Chizuru Yukimura and her adventures with the Shinsengumi. Chizuru is the daughter of Koudou, a doctor who specialize in Western medicine. He had departed for Kyoto, but after months of no communication, Chizuru decided to journey off to Kyoto in search for her missing father.

One night in Kyoto, Chizuru was chased by wandering samurais. As she hid from them, she witnessed demon-like men who seemingly arrived out of nowhere. The demons killed the wandering samurais swiftly and quickly spotted Chizuru. Thankfully, before they could attack her, the dispatched Shinsengumi saved her in time.

She ended up in the care of the Shinsengumi, a special police force under the control of the Shogunate. The Shinsengumi revealed to Chizuru that they have been searching for a missing doctor. When both party realize that they are searching for the same man (her father), they decided to let Chizuru stay with them semi-permanently.

Peaceful moments were interrupted quickly in Kyoto. Chizuru learned that there are much darker secrets within the city. All of which was happening at a time where the country was going through historical changes in power leaders.

The Hakuouki visual novel games gained quick popularity domestically (Japan) and worldwide. An anime and manga series were adapted shortly after the success of the games.

The fanlisting launched on August 25, 2019. I played a few mobile otome games in 2014 first before I stepped my foot into otome games made for hand held consoles. I picked up Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom for my PSP and this game made my heart ache...! I got the bad ending because I did not follow any guides. To this day, I still claim the Hakouki games as the game that got me into the otome game rabbit hole and to why I love otome games.
